Instinctive Film / Darryn Welch

Darryn Welch graduated from ARTTS International, a film and television program in North Yorkshire before returning to Spain to set up Versatile Film in 1999; a successful production company in the commercials, music video and television arena.

In 2002 Darryn raised private equity to fund his first feature comedy “Oh Marbella“ starring Rik Mayall, penned by the writers of UK Box Office hits; St. Trinians 1 & 2. In 2004 he went on to raise additional private equity to fund his directorial debut “Slave“ a thriller set in Spain that was sold and released internationally.

In 2005 Darryn successfully listed Southern Rock Films PLC on AIM; (the Alternative Investment Market) for which he was the CEO, he resigned from the company in late 2006 to pursue his Producing career and. in the same year he co produced “Goal! The Dream Begins” for Buena Vista International; having raised several million Euros of private equity to fund the film.

After spending time producing in Eastern Europe during late 2005 – 2006, Darryn decided to relocate to Berlin, where the postproduction for “Slave” had taken place, to set up INSTINCTIVE FILM; a development, finance and production company established as a partnership between Darryn and his production finance partner Chris Ouwinga in 2007.


Recently wrapped is the company’s biggest homegrown production to date; the Xavier Gens (Frontieres, HITMAN) helmed post apocalyptic action thriller “The Divide” about a group of people trapped in a basement of a New York apartment building after a huge explosion has rocked the city.

Recently completed films include Steven Silver’s true story about a group of war Photographers in South Africa during the Apartheid – “The Bang Bang Club“ starring Ryan Phillippe, Malin Akerman and Taylor Kitsch; and Will Canon‘s Fraternity prank gone-wrong thriller “Brotherhood“ which won the audience award at SXSW this year.

Currently in preproduction is writer/director Eron Sheean’s (The Divide) biogenetics conspiracy thriller “Errors of the Human Body” and horror anthology “Paris, I’ll Kill You’ which combines some of today’s most exciting and prevalent directing talent including Vincenzo Natali, Joe Dante, Neil Marshall and Louis Leterrier.

Recent productions include Ryan Gosling produced  “Broken Kingdom“ written and directed by Daniel Gillies, Peter Sehr and Marie Noelle’s  Spanish Civil War drama “The Anarchist’s Wife“ Peter Dowling’s New York subway chriller “Stag Night“,  Brian King’s mystery/thriller “Night Train” Davey Frankel’s stunning and award winning Abebe Bikila biopic  “Atletu – The Athlete. The multi-award winning feature documentary “The End“ released theatrically in the UK in May 2009, German language coming of age comedy “13 Semester“ distributed by FOX and Slamdance screenplay award winner “Drool“ written and directed by Nancy Kissam.
